hi grant,
funny u posted this, cos i was in the solitarys this past weekend and took heaps of pics with my sony DSC-P1. i found that i wanted to take better pics and thought about a slave strobe. i banged off a mail to sea-optics in adelaide. apparently the sea&sea doesnt really work too well with the sony because the flash sensor was designed for nikons.
sea optics recommended a video light. check out the email i received from them...
"Hi James
The easiest way to improve the photo's out of these compact camera's is to use video lights. The reason for this is basically the camera has a set level of light to expose for so it can easily deal with the situation and give you the best possible results. With Flash compact digitals tend to overexpose too much for the flash output giving you washed out photo's this is why constant video lighting is best.
I have two types still available
The older 101s 20 watt Halogen light head at $770 inc GST plus $88 inc GST for the base tray including batteries and charger plus freight. These are our ex demo stock from the showroom upstairs. They have never been in water but do have the odd scratch from being on display.
Secondly the new 10 watt ARC lights which have just been released, these have an output equivalent of 35-40 watts Halogen but a burn time of a 10 watt globe of around 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes depending on the batteries used. The 10 watt Arc heads are $1650 inc GST and this includes your choice of M series or L series batteries and charger in the price. The base tray again is $88 inc GST. I do have one Demo model which is in mint condition for $1550 if this helps at all."
i saw somewhere that you can get one of these HID video lights and use it as a normal HID divelight if u want. a video light sounds like a good idea because i find my camera doest focus too well under normal diving conditions/light.
cheers,
James
