I'm going on a trip to the Galapagos and I'm going to purchase either a sony digital camera or canon digital camera with the housing that sony and canon provide. I'm just getting a small digital, not the SLR digital with interchangeable lenses. Sony considerations are the DSC-P100, or W5. Canon Powershot is also a consideration. Is the Sony or Canon housing more versatile than the other (like future additions of an external flash, etc...) or are they similar. Thanks.

I hate Sonys...mainly because of their memory stick!! So far I have been diving with a few guys that use Sonys and they haven't had the luck I have had with my Canon A80! If I'm not mistaken he has the W5??? I dive in Guam with no strobes or gizmos. Check out my Gallery if you want!
Ask yourself this "Why isn't there a Sony Forum on Scubaboard?"

I gotta go with Canon. I see a ton of cameras come through here each month and hands down the Canons are bringing back the better shots across the board. My preference is the AXX series, but the new S70 has done well as have several of the Ixus/Elph line. But be aware that some do NOT offer manual control and that is going to limit what you can acheive underwater. Go for a setup that offers you the option of aperture and shutter control, for sure.
