Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read my plea for help.

I am upgrading from using the tg7 with a hand held light to, I am thinking, the sony a6400 which I have used before I really liked. I am upgrading because I am going to lembeh and macro is my real interest. I am also an instructor so dive regularly.

I am fairly certain I am going to go with sony 90mm for macro ( I will get a diopter when the budget allows) but as wide has never really been my passion I am feeling super lost with lens selection. As wide is not really what I am super interested in, I am looking for something that is not going to break the bank. If anyone has some advice I would gladly take it.

As for my strobe and video light question. As I have stated, at nauseam at this point, I would like to start off with lighting for macro. Only one strobe is in the budget at this point. I would also really like to get video as well as still images, so my question is should I get a strobe and snoot with a video light or a focus light?

Thanks in advance!

I am an A6400 shooter now for five years with the Nauticam NA-6400, WWL-1 wide angle and use the CMC 1 and 2 for macro with the kit lens. I am the opposite of you however as macro is just not my interest and abstract and CFWA are my main interests. Not only am I the opposite of you, I absolutely loath video, will not look at video and will not shoot video. I am a stills only photog.

You might consider the Backscatter strobes HF-1 which as a video light built in. You can get two Inon S220 strobes for the price of one HF-1 but they are not video combo units. The S220 packs a punch for such a tiny strobe and is super reliable. But it cannot support video.
