While diving is fun, never under-estimate the sea +
The diving season has started in the UK, as can be seen by the details below.
These are the ones that were published in the press. No doubt there are other accidents or situations that go unreported
Note the dates.
10 July 2004 One diver died and another was airlifted to a recompression chamber after an uncontrolled ascent from the wreck of the Santa Maria, lying at 60m in Rathlin Sound, County Antrim, N Ireland.
9 July 2004 A diver, who became separated from his buddy and failed to surface, was recovered unconscious from the seabed off Eastbourne by a third diver from the group. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Coastguard rescue crew.
3 July 2004 The body of a 52-year-old man was recovered by a fishing vessel assisting the Humber Coastguard, after a diver was reported missing at the Farne Islands.
21 June 2004 The body of a diver was recovered by Plymouth fishermen on Monday is believed to be that of technical diver Adam Krull, lost off the wreck of the Charlwood.
23 June 2004 Shetland Coastguard coordinated the search for four technical divers who were swept away from a decompression station in the highly tidal and unpredictable Pentland Firth, off Orkney.
7 June 2004 Three divers left clinging to a shotline after a dive off the coast of Norfolk were rescued by a passing yacht after Yarmouth Coastguard broadcast a request for vessels in the area to conduct a search.
29 May 2004 The body of 44-year-old Eddie Girvan was found on the bottom of the National Diving Centre at Tidenham, Gloucestershire, on Monday 24 May.
17 May 2004 Coastguard raced to the scene near Tintagel, North Cornwall on Sunday 16 May after a diver was reported missing by his dive companions.
3 May 2004 40-year-old Helen Simpson from Chester died after diving the WW1 German battle cruiser Dresden which lies in 34m at Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands on Sunday 2 May.
There's others but I won't go on.
