Greetings

Just a quick query, I know this is still a bit of a 'work-in-progress' group, but I was wondering if there are any social meets in/around the London Area, I'm not sure how long it will be before I can actually start diving as my funds are currently tied up in some industry courses and some rock bottom shares .

Was just wondering if there are groups of divers in the capital that meet up for chat / beer / beer / beer / beer on a frequant basis as I would love to get the chance to chat to some more experianced divers.

There are so many questions regarding it all that I would like some advice on, hehe

that and ofcourse the cold beverages!

Hi Phoenix,

Did someone say socialising?

This is, as far as I am concerned, the most important part of the diving scene in the UK because I am afraid to say that I am far too old :eek:ldguy: and decrepit to dive in this country anymore.

So please remember that I am more than willing to assist in putting tanks on boats and acting is keep dry divemaster but as far as getting in the water. No-oh thanks.

I am, however, more than committed to the apres diving activities, as if I have drink something cold I would rather it was beer than the English Channel. (Though of course the beer is clearer than the English Channel)

So let's all gather at some point soon and choose our drinking buddies for the next round....

3 weeks, 5 days, 23 hours, 45 minutes until I depart for Tahiti. Not that I am counting....

Tahiti; Thinking of black sand and coconut trees, dancing girls , cheap rum, and outdoor feasts of roast pork. I loved travellers books like "A pattern of Islands" and the thought of island hopping in the South Pacific is an idyllic fantasy of mine. When I saw your destination I just thought "lucky Jim" :D

Dancing girls, cheap rum, roast pork.....

Lucky I'm not off to Iran, then! Won't find much of that there!

Yes, the S Pacific has a certain charm to it, but some of the islands are dumps of the highest magnitude - Majuro in the Marshall Islands, for instance; Truk; even, dare I say it, Yap. Full of litter that the "throw away" culture of yesteryear doesn't understand will not rot away like your average banana skin! But there are a few lovely places too. I hope tahiti lives up to my expectations!

I shall let you know on my return!

Regards
Jim

I once went to a casino in nothern Iran, there was vodka served in brown bottles with a crimped metal cap.
If I could find a nice coastal region in a country where I don't need an overcoat in Summer, good clear water for diving with no mad bar steward madela dancing politico's, I might think of emigrating. New Zealand sounds great, I want to try some their poor 40metre viz.
No doubt there have been many changes over the years, so many places had a simplicity and a native charm far from the contamination of television. Some years ago I thought I would like to visit the Marquise Islands, I hear they like bingo and watch wok TV, National Geographical made it sound like the "big rock candy mountain":D
