I put this in a general forum to get more responses, since my question is more than just Panama.

Watching that ultra realistic show Survivor last night, they showed everybody's favorite shark, the great white, as one of the dangers in the area.

Being from No. Cal., I immediately dismissed it as incorrect but looking at my handy little shark guide book showed a range of down and around Florida, even on the West coast of Florida, as well as down the Pacific side of South America, though not specifically by Panama.

So would you see such a shark off Panama? I understand they're ocean going and can travel long distances but what's the reality of it?

All I saw at Isla Coiba were white tip reef sharks. Maybe I should have looked behind me more often ;)

Yea sort of like a diving disease..........wide spread.....attacks the red blood cells......and once you get hit by it you rarely survive.

The good news is that it is an extremely RARE disease.

Great Whites are found in EVERY ocean. And now it's been found they can go deep. I am not an Marine biologist but I feel that since it takes alot of k/cal to keep them moving, the sharks may instinctively go deep to get to cooler Water to slow their metabolism, use up less resources. I know that there are lots of Hammerheads just off the coast of Colon, northern isthmus, Panama. Some one told me it was the Largest breeding ground in the world for them. Is it concievable the Great Whites could be preying on them?
