Went diving at Lanier on saturday for the very first time. Headed in at the beach at West Bank park, and immediately thought "no way i'm going down in that... where's the bottom... wait, where's ANYTHING?" Green and murky and less than 5 foot viz. Beautiful. Ended up just heading around the edge of the cove there at about 20 feet... not much to see other than an enormous amount of trash, but on the bright side I did spend some time socializing with a pretty decent size school of brim. bottom time was just 36 minutes, I got bored eventually. Oh, and I found 3 golf balls. So, crappy viz, lots o trash and the constant unsettling sound of jetskis whizzing by (they weren't anywhere close)... but I was happy, I got my fix and I would probably do it again. I'd like to have someone with me though who knows the good spots.

Nope, Dawg, it ain't Bon Aire !!!!

. . . but it's close by, breathing gas is readily available, and it doesn't cost ya $3000 to get there, dive and go back home!!!

. . . but diving those conditions DOES make you a better diver, in my opinion.

Welcome to the Lake Lanier Looney Bird style of diving.

Looking forward to diving with ya . . .

Very true, only drove 20 minutes and spent $24 (tanks and park entrance).

And I would have to agree... I think diving in those low viz waters will probably do alot to boost my confidence overall.

If you think visibility is bad at Lanier then you should come drop in off my dock on Allatoona. It makes Lanier look like tap water.

Good for underwater navigation and getting wet.
