New diver here and I'm absolutely bewildered by the number of choices there are for regulators, BCDs, etc especially when I don't really know the difference between them...

I need a regulator. I dive in Monterey. Would like to travel with it, dive cold water with it, dive deep water with it, and dive Nitrox.

I heard that the XS Scuba Tri-Metal RG200 is a really good value reg that has a lot of features. Costs about $370.

Should I get this? What are the arguments for or against this model compared to all the other models out there? I have 3 local service centers I can get XS Scuba serviced at.

Lots of people seem to like the HOG and ScubaPro regs and I don't know what the difference is.

Hog is good, ScubaPro is good, and the XS Scuba is good.

The XS Scuba Tri Metal won high praises about 3 years ago in the "Muscle Regs" review on Scubadiving magazine. I was kinda surprised by it. Mostly because that magazine is such a 'ho' to it's advertisers and this was a new reg and XS wasn't a big full page advertiser. It ranked up there with the Atomics, Apeks, and Aqualung Legends.

but with that said, I just haven't seen it catch on with folks. (which if you'll notice by your thread title of XS Scuba Tri-metal hasn't gathered any other replies.).

Given the choices you gave above, I'd buy the HOG if it was me. Nothing wrong with ScubaPro performance. It's top notch. but you'll pay twice as much for it.
