I am so lost!! I have a Canon a720 in an Ikelite housing. I have used the Nikonos sb 105 with the Nikonos sync cord with the Heinrichweikamp slave with this unit, and was very pleased.
Now the Nikonos sb 105 is acting up. With fresh batteries in it, sometimes half the dive will go by before the red light comes on to fire. It will then work like a charm the rest of the dive. (and yes I check it in the room before to make sure it is all ready).
Other times it works great the first half of the dive and then nothing. And not for every dive. Very frustrating.
So, I am thinking of getting another strobe. But since I have the sync cord and slave already, what strobe would use the Nikonos sync cord? HELP.....

First have you had your strobe checked out by a camera strobe service ? Overtime the capacitors in a strobe can degrade and not provide even power. Or some other part may have pooped out in your strobe.

Epoque makes some strobes which use Nikonos connectors. Here's the B&H page with a couple of Epoque strobes:

Try a Sea and Sea YS110a with fiber optic cable. Another good option is the Inon S2000 with fiber optic cable. You won't need the Heinrichs Weikamp slave, these have it built in.

You may have a problem with your converter. Is it the very old style with internal battery? Maybe the battery died. Mine did. He redesigned it to use strobe power in the current version. But if your cables are old, could have problems there too.
