Okay, not really sure how it happened, but I did it. I have had my A80 and Cannon case for quite a while, but recently bought a strobe for it. Like anyone with new toys, we want to try them out, so during my Nitrox Cert. Dives today, I took along the camera.

Well, it flooded! (freshwater)

Now, some people there told me that I might be able to salvage it if I put it in a dresser drawer with some towels (no clothes) and turn on the hairdryer to dry it out... so I did and left it for a couple hours. I havent had the guts to put the batteries back in and test it out... maybe I should dry it some more just in case (there were about 5-7 hours of being out of the case from the end of the dive to getting locked in the drawer).

Has this worked for anyone?? Have you done something differently to slavage the camera? (thank goodness it is on the home owners insurance policy... just for this reason - but hoping it would never happen)

HELP?!

I have flooded camera's before. In saltwater with the camera on. I rinsed it out with tap water and let it sit for a couple of days. It worked fine. It wasn't a soak but doused good (salt then fresh). I think it takes days before it drys completly. I think You should take it to a camera repair shop. It does matter how much value before hand though. Good luck......Bill

Welcome to the F-word Club :D

Glad it was insured, hope it dries out. Even if it works for a little while you may find problems down the track due to a bit of corrosion in the internal workings.

Hope you were able to ID a cause so it doesn't happen next time around!

Havent been able to yet, but I wanted to forget about it for the rest of the day... only do what was necessary... as you can see from my countdown, I have a little time before my next big trip... thank goodness I wasnt on it when it happened *knocking on wood*

I'll probably work on figuring it out today.

well of course, the A80 I had is discontinued... and they replaced it with the A95. And of course, Canon says "you have to get a new housing to fit the A95"... dont you just love that marketing! Thanks to advice from aquakiwi here, I took the housing to Best Buy today, and what do you know, the A95 WILL work with my housing... so I ordered one from B&H and will test my housing one more time before taking it down with a camera! Thanks for yall's help!!

Pack your housing with some papertowels and see if you find the area leaking. Also invest in a moisture alarm. They are great! Between it and my buddy they saved my Nikon on the 1st dive I took it on. As you have found out it isn't if your housing will flood but when.

I have never heard of a moisture alarm... what is it and where can i find it?

Moisture alarm....from Aquatica...www.aquatica.ca Seems like about $75
It is an electronic device that when it gets wet a light comes on and they may also have a buzzer but I didn't hear it go off. It is small enough to fit in the extra space on most housings. I put the contact in the lowest point in the housing. It doesn't take much water to activate and it may save your camera.
Cool device.

Emily, how did this not set your whole dresser on fire? It sounds very dangerous!

Haha, I worried about that too... I didnt set it on the hottest setting, and the drawer was open, and I only let it run for sevreal hours... and I was always there!! Wouldnt want to come home to a chared mess!! Oh well, it didnt work anyways... I think cause the camera was turned on when I went down... maybe I should only turn it on after I get under.
