snorkeling / shore diving in bali or nearby??

I'm planning a trip to SE asia for 2 weeks, starting either Oct. 20th or Nov. 22nd. I'm going to want to do some sightseeing, some boat diving, and some shore diving. For 1 week my friend will be with me, who only snorkels, but she might try a resort diving course.

I will be flying out of LA, and she lives in singapore. We will be travelling on a budget.

We are thinking of going to Bali, since it is close to singapore, but we are open to other suggestions if people have them.

How would the conditions for snorkeling and shore diving be around that time in bali? are there good places for snorkeling and diving together in bali?

Any comments / suggestions people have would be appreciated! (or recommendations to go somewhere else).

You can try Tulamben in Bali: excellent shore diving - I had fantastic dives there in late October / early November last year (even saw a mola-mola on the wreck )

October is better, because end of November starts to become rainy season.

thanks a lot for the info! I'm going to try to do it in late october if possible, and I'll definitely stay in Tulamben for at least a couple days... if anyone else has recommendations for where there is good snorkeling and diving together in bali, let me know! I'll be going through guidebooks too...

Padang Bai, Nusa Penida and Menjangan are all good for both divers & snorkellers. Amed & Candi Dasa area (Gili Tepekong) are good for divers but not good for snorkellers. Sanur & Nusa Dua are good for nothing.

Now is the season for Mola Molas (oceanic sunfish) I think, best found around the sites mentioned above: Nusa Penida and Amuk Bay:
