This board is an awesome resource for SCUBA diving, but I have a very snorkeling-specific question (posted here, for lack of a better place) and would like to know if anyone knows of a snorkeling board or if there would be interest in adding snorkeling and/or freediving boards to this system.

I imagine that this crowd is rather biased toward diving, but snorkeling and freediving certainly have their benefits. A few are:
  • Much, much lower cost (overhead and expense)
  • Much easier/faster to get out there
  • Much quieter, compared to Darth Vader in a bathtub
  • Way less cumbersome
  • The above two can lead to a more integral / less techno-observer experience
  • No time limit
  • Arguably safer, though freediving certainly has its risks
I'm certainly not trying to dis diving. I'm looking forward to getting certified, but we don't have the money for it just now (for the winter all our crazy money is going toward getting somewhere warm, with none left over for certification). And I can imagine some big advantages to diving, such as being able to go much deeper, stay down much, much longer, avoid being hit by boats , etc..

I just want to point out that there are reasons why some people (even you, perhaps  ) might want to snorkel and/or freedive. And to point out that as far as I can tell there isn't any place for people to discuss these activities. If you know of one, or would like to see one here, please reply. Thanks!

Here, here, Toe! Check out http://www.deeperblue.net for a fantastic freediving forum.

Don't be so sure that the scuba divers necessarily go deeper than the freedivers. A lot of recreational freedivers/spearfishermen push the 100 + feet of depths, and a lot of scuba divers don't (you know, another certification level and all that). Ok, Ok, a lot of scuba divers do go deeper but you see my point. The difference in down time isn't so great either, experienced freedivers can spend about 1/3 as much time under the water along with a scuba diver on a recreational dive AND no time limits as to how much in one day they can do that. + there's no 24 hr. wait to fly restriction. Lot's of positives on the freediving I think.

Stretch those lungs out.. :)

I'm a certified freediving junkie and if there was a freediving specific spot here on the board, I'd be there.

I'm very interested in talking freediving! Around where I live there seem to be quite a handful of small scuba clubs but if there are any freedivers, they're well hidden.
