Not since "Hitler Isn't AOW" have I enjoyed a scuba video so much...

Too funny. Thanks for the larf.

Remember, a good teammate could jump in and help. A great teammate, however, just keeps the camera rolling. :)

I think the buddy with the camera was simply thinking "don't become the second victim"

:shocked2:

1) Poodle Jacket.

2) Christmas Tree.

3) Split Fins.

...and anyone should be surprised that he doesn't know what neutral bouyancy is.... let alone how to set-up and deploy a DSMB.

He's probably on the forum right now.... complaining how the 'DIR types' are wrong for criticising his equipment choices...

...the lack of intervention...which makes me worry that this might have been an instructor or DM training dive! :shocked2::shocked2::shocked2:

(and ..yes... I have seen qualified Divemasters make worse spectacles of themselves with DSMB deployment).

Whoever said the 'bit of string' deployment method was acceptable should be taken out and shot. I remember Thailand is full of 'professional' level divers doing just this.

The other Starbucks customers might think I'm a little strange now, sitting in the corner and giggling quietly.

I love how you can hear the cameraman laughing at about 2:15, and then laughing hysterically when the bag gets caught in his fin (3:35).

Oh, my goodness, that video is funny (but cruel!) It reminds me of the day that Peter and I decided to try to sort out a jammed reel while doing a safety stop in Catfish Sink, and ended up with the whole basin full of loops of yellow line that seemed sentient in their determination to remain uncorralled.

The video does, on a more serious note, have some good teaching points. It is very difficult to maintain your depth while task-loaded, if you weren't neutral to begin with, which is why I hate negative swimming ascents. Line is evil stuff, and carrying it wadded up in a ball is a good way to end up with a mess. And becoming so focused on one thing during a dive can result in huge depth swings, losing an upline, or losing a buddy; part of executing tasks underwater is learning to meter the time you have been engrossed and interrupting the task with quick checks of team and position.

I did laugh really hard at the video, and felt like one of those childhood playground bullies laughing at someone whose pants fell down :)

I'm glad nobody had a video of me when I was snorke fishing for tarpon in Bonaire. I had the entanglement from "H" and had lost my dive knife the day before. I know, I know, redundancy and I will have two dive knives from now on! But I was just snorkeling, lol!
That was a really good video!
