hi i'm new to the board. and i will like to know if anyone has something to say about the nwe uwatec smart tec? i want to know because i'm planing to get one! so hope that you can help me

I've been playing aorund with one from my LDS and I posted on it earlier, heres what I had to say:
"Today I actually talked with the tech instructor at my LDS and he really seemed to like the new Uwatec Tec. He said that it is a great computer and he uses it mainly for backup to his tables (GUE Deco Planner.) When compairing it to the deco planner he found the computer to be more liberal, although he says he has the safty factor set kind of high, but when he lowers the factor to like 50% the deco times pretty much match. And if you want a greater safety factor you can always turn on the micro bubble setting; although in my opinion the micro bubble is annoying to use. One of the other nice features he talked about was how the computer DOES NOT lock up when switching a mix with a PPO2 greater than 1.6, the computer allows you to switch and still calculates the deco time. He said that he had problems with the Vytech locking up. When I asked him to compair it to the VR3 he said that if you are not planning on using a CCR rebreather, or doing trimix the Tec was a better buy. Also the computer can use the Uwatec Thingi (sorry forgot what it was called) to monitor the PPO2 from a rebreater. If you have any other questions about the computer just ask. Hope this helps.
P.S. the tec will set you back 1300 big ones."

I also was looking at the Tech, but I think im going to get a VR3 once the new deco model comes out in like August. I was also looking at the HS Explorer, but I like the build quality of the VR3 better and once the new model comes out I believe the deco times will be very similar to the HS Explorer. Also the VR3 is in color! :D

Thnk you for your answer ! now i have a point of view to make a decition! TAHNKS A LOT!

I just got back from a trip to the Philippines where my new Smart Tec quit working on me. I was very happy with it up to that point and was surprised to have it fail. I did not violate any dive proceedures. I was noting diving information from my logs on the boat, strapped it on for my next dive and it didn't come on even though I had it for water activation just as it had for my 12 previouse dives. Fortunately I had my old computer with me to use for the rest of the trip. I just took it back to my LDS and will probably have to wait for them to send it to Uwatec to figure out what went wrong. I'll have to post when/if they tell me what is wrong with it.

hey jason
that is too bad. Please keep me posted when you have news about your tec!

Well got some word from thru my LDS from Uwatec in California. They claim there were some "software glitches in the early production computers and that they would like to send a new model as a replacement". They haven't heard of my exact failure type but they had not yet taken apart my computer. (it just quit working during a surface interval and would not turn on with water contact or manual switch on.) I should know better than buying the new model on the block but I wanted the same functionality as the Suunto Vytec with a less conservative algorhythm. Sigh.

Good luck.
