Been using an OMS multi page slate on a retractor. So far been happy with it. Do not know if it conforms to the Hogarthian way of things. I tried a wrist slate and hated it. kept getting tangled, moverd around and lost it purchase on arm, etc.

What do you use for writing?

Wetnotes. They live in my right pocket.

I believe most people would say that slates on retractors are not Hogarthian (although defining precisely what that is is difficult, without input from WHM). Retractors jam and the springs break; slates hang down and catch in kelp and line. The essence of a Hog rig is streamlining and simplicity, and minimizing the number of things that can break.
