All of my cameras have one to protect the lens from damage, but will this filter interfere with the lens function in the Oly housing?

The port will protect your lens already so I would leave the filter off. The filter might prevent the lens from extend fully in the housing also.

It most definitely does prevent the lens from fully extending .When the filter hits the front of the port the camera will power down .

You can imagine the frustration of going on a dive in an exotic location and not being able to use your camera while all sorts of wonderful marine life swims by .It's quite easy to forget to remove the filter before putting the camera in the housing .

Don't ask me how I know this .:11:

The above is true for the PT-020 housing - I can't speak for Ikelite.

How would one attach the filter to the lens? The 5060 does not have a filter ring on the lens or does it? The 8080 has a 58mm ring on its lens.

You can find that size filter. I was able to find a polarizing filter that screws right on. You must remember to remove it before putting it in the housing, however.

The correct size filter is a 40.5 mm .Mine are all TIFFEN .

Allison - how effective is the polarizer. I'm about to order the Olympus one for topside use and would appreciate some feedback / info .

Boy, putting on anything for use in an UW Housing would be, IMNSHO, a disaster waiting to happen.. those things are so finely set that I'm surprised the camera didn't break completely AndyT... heheh.. or did it?? (ouch)

Oly used to , probably still do, whine about leaving the lens cap on when you start it up... strips the gears or something.. becomes a door stop??? or close to it...

Just wouldn't want to try that on the inside at least.. outside?, whatever you can get away with...

Ahhhgh... I cringe just thinking about it... and on your first shot of a whale shark tooo... LOL...

Accidently leaving the filter on is a really silly idea .I had spent the whole day taking topside shots and forgot to remove the filter .Fortunately the camera survived and lived to tell the tale !!!

The Whale Shark and Manta shots came later on in the trip (fortunately) - sadly the viz and other factors , not the filter , prevented those "classic" shots from happening .

And yes , the front port is a perfect door stopper .

Not Allison, but I use a Hoya HMC circular polarizer at the end of the CLA-1 with my C5050. I use it with the WCON-7 by screwing it onto the front thread of the polarizer. I use it mainly for landscapes and it's great for deep blue skies.
