I had a question about sizing a BC. I am just a shade under 6' tall, but weigh about 265. Most of the sizing charts show that I should wear a L or XL (depending on brand) for my waist and chest size. However, most L and XL BC's are for 6'2" or above. Is that a problem? Is it more important for the waist and chest sizes to be accurate and not worry about a few inches on the height measurement?

Thanks in advance.

PS - Could we skip the "Just buy a BP/W" discussion on this one??? :D:D

I think the answer to this question could very well depend on the particular BC you are considering. In other words, you really should try it on. Even better if you can have someone with experience who can evaluate the fit with you. An LDS is the classic place to do this, but failing that, there are some reputable online dealers who are pretty good at giving sizing advice over the phone. ScubaToys come to mind. If you do buy sight unseen, just make sure you're clear on the exchange policy if the fit is not right. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Lilla

Edit: It is possible that an LDS might just try to fit you into whatever they have in stock, so be sure you trust them or get recommendations from experienced locals if possible.

And consider your wetsuit or drysuit. These will change the sizing dramatically.

If you're looking at a Zeagle (or want to), they're modular, meaning that you can get the waist and shoulder parts in different sizes for a "custom" fit.

Call ScubaToys for expert sizing assistance.

Try it on at a shop first. Alot of BCDs are very adjustable, as far as the waistband and shoulder clips. It should feel comfortable. If it is not comfortable in the shop, it won't get better in the water. The waist and chest size is what you are concerned about.
