Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a Seaqest ProQD+ BCD. I'm 6' and a little over 165 pounds. I've tried on both the M size and the ML size (in the shop, wearing a tshirt and sweatshirt - I don't think I'll get the chance to try one in the water), and I have to say the M felt more comfortable, but the bottom of the BC did come up quite high on my waist - but could this just be the straps being adjusted too short? The ML by comparison seemed to sit quite low on my waist - but again, this could be the straps I suppose.

I guess my question is, what should I be looking for in the size of a BC? Where should the bottom of the BCD sit? The Dive shop guy said that the M looked fine, but if were to wear a drysuit (which I don't) he would suggest the size up. I'm also wondering whether the M would have enough lift for me, based on Seaquest's sizing chart (my weight fits with the M, but my height is for the ML).

I know this is sort of a vagueish question, but thanks for any handy hints any of you may have.

Cheers,

Geoff

Hey Geoff
My first bcd was a SQ PRO QD and I am 5ft 10 in at 220...thick chested and ended up getting an XL. I would have liked to have gotten an L but the sizing seems off on all of them for my build. It is a great bcd but I have finally replaced it.

Yep...I have gone to the dark side and gotten a bp and wing and would recommend you do that too....or at least.....try one out. It is far superior to a vest style.
Take a look at www.northeastscubasupply.com and check our their DiveRite packages. You can get the whole deal ready to dive for only $449. I got that package and am happy.
let me know how it goes

I'm 6'1+" and about 230lbs. I wear a SQ Pro QD+ Large. It fits fine and is the most comforatble BC i've used in 15 years of diving. But that is subjective, everyone is different and should pick what fits them best.
I would recommend going with the ML. It may seem a bit big but it will give you more room to grow (it happens!), add thicker exposure protection. You could also swap the cumberbund for one from a M, then you get the lift, but may be able to cinch it down tighter.
If possible, were your usual wetsuit and try them on. Take into account that depth will compress your wetsuit some and initial surface fit may be different than underwater.
Personally, this is the first BC I have been able to adjust on the surface and NOT had to adjust in water. No matter whether I'm in the Bahamas wearing only a swimsuit or in a Colorado lake with two layers of 7mm.
