I take a pic using RAW and the size is 10 meg +. I take a pic using RAW and JPeg and the size is c 2 meg. Anyone know why this is ? I would have thought that it would be at least the size of the pic using RAW only plus something for the Jpeg.

Thx a lot

RAW is basically all the data captured by the camera for a shot. This is a huge amount of data hence the file size. Think of JPEG as a tool to get rid of the extra data that you don't need, therefore reducing file sizes. If you're asking the question you probably should to shoot in JPEG mode only as working with RAW files is for advanced users who want to play with image settings and such.

I was recently under the Red Sea with my G9. I was shooting RAW and the .CR2 files ranged from 15.2 to 12.7 MB, my strobe batteries died, so I switched to the Underwater Mode in JPEG the files are 6 to 3.6 MB.

I would think that if you are shooting both simultaneously then you should be seeing between 21 and 16 MB per picture set (one .CR2 and one JPEG for each frame). It would seem to me that at 2 MB you might not be capturing both?????

I am on a business trip right now and don't have the camera with me, once I get home I will set the camera to take both RAW and JPEG (just learned how thanks to SB Geoff) and let you know.....

Hope this helps......M
