Hi all,
mid-august I will be to Borneo for vacation. Part of this holiday will be spent diving in and around Sipadan and I am now looking for tips on this destination:

- any outfits offering live aboard?
- best place to organise from?
- best base (Mataking Island, Mabul....)?
- how to get most dive time on Sipadan island?
- any other tips.....?

As always look forward to hearing from you all!!

Tnx,
Kim

Hi Kim,

MV Celebes Explorer is the only liveaboard taking divers to Sipadan area.

You can relax knowing you will be doing plenty of dives around Sipadan Island. Choosing this liveaboard normally means that you can dive at Sipadan on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Book early to avoid disappointment.

Have a great trip!

i stayed with seaventures last week. i had a amazing time dived sipadan 4days straight( i extended to 2 extra afternoon dives in sipadan aswell some days) i could have carried on going to sipidan but i asked them to stop submiting the permits so i could dive mabul/kapalai to check out the macro which was amazing. also the house reef under the rig is a brilliant dive.

very good price aswell.

I've been in Sipadan in 2004 (stayed in Mabul) and would like to go back this year but I read quite a lot of reviews of divers spending 6 days there and only managing to dive 2 days in Sipadan.

Can any of you give any idea of the probability of getting permits to Sipadan?

Thank you
Pedro

Hi, Unfortunately nowadays it is difficult to guarantee your whole vacation actually diving around Sipadan. Just book as early as you possibly can and get your permits sorted out. There is other good diving in the area. Good luck. If you have not been there before consider Layang Layang.

it doesn't matter how early you book as they submit the permits the day before you intend to go.you find out if your going around 5pm..

sipadan scuba offer a full range of dive courses and dive trips to many islands including sipadan. you can book in advanced online to guarantee your days in sipadan. go to sipadanonline.com and if you use the discount number you will receive a 10% discount. enjoy.
