Had an absolutely wonderful experience logging 20 dives over the week at Sipadan and Mabul. Weather was really great and the sea was very smooth on all but one day.
Came from San Francisco and flew to Singapore, then Kuala Lumpur and then FOREVER later arrived by flight into Tawau. Amazingly I was able to carry on all of my gear from San Fran to Singapore (Thanks to some shorter Talaria split fins that are just under 22", I also have a light islander BCD and a pretty small reg, Oceanic GT3)
Then a night spent in grungy Semporna and then finally off the magical underwater edens of Sipadan and Mabul!
Logged 12 Dives at Sipadan (Barracuda point multiple times, South Point, Hanging Gardens, Staghorn Crest....) and lots of different spots off Mabul. I saw multiple turtles and sharks (Whitetip and Gray Reef Sharks) on every dive at Sipadan and tons of interesting creatures muck diving in Mabul.
I stayed at a little know Homestay far from the overpriced resorts that dominate the diving scence in this area. It was very basic but i brought all of my own gear which was worlds better than the ancient rental gear they offered!
Come to Sipadan, it is a really great place and you will not be dissapointed with a single dive! I cannot wait to go back!
