I have a choice between Sint Maartin(Dutch) or Playa Del Carmen for a dive trip this October 2006. Which is the better destination? I have been to Cozumel a couple of times and Playa Del Carmen is a ferry ride away. I went to Sint Maartin over 20 years ago on a cruise but didn't have time to do any diving. I would appreciate all opinions on diving first as well as night life and topside fun.

I dove Sint Maarten about a year ago during a two week vacation there. We did no reef diving....just wrecks. I found the diving enjoyable with a good assortment of underwater life and got some good u/w photos.

The restaurants are world class, albeit expensive. Many restaurants have evening entertainment.

Dove Puertos Adventurs(spelling incorrect) last year. Diving was good, went to playa on day trip and had a great time. Like it better than cozmel or cancun.

Just got back from Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen... need to do a cenote dive at least once.. neat! Also, dove Tortugas in Playa.... very cool - did it twice! Lots of good diving in Cozumel a ferry ride away. The town of Playa is pretty nice in the evening - action packed - while Cozumel is pretty dead.

I'm heading to Playa in mid-February. I dove cenotes last year. What are the Tortugas in Playa? What dive company did you use, and would you recommend them again?
