single tank adaptor new and old

hi i would like to find out the difference between the new and old single tank adaptor as the one i have comes over the top of the wing it is a voyager xt with a transplate harness

if i use the old style back plate will it damage my wing as it hangs over the top or bottom depending which holes i use to connect everything together
