Just sharing the project resulting from being a cold intolerant fat head.

In already wonderfully warm 72° water with my friends borrowed cap I could add on average an extra 25 minutes comfortable dive time but it fit like a vise. A hood would be ridiculous overkill but the added bump protection and warmth of a cap was welcome.

Turned a 3mm neoprene laptop sleeve case into one using my hood as a visual pattern for a paper pattern. Hand sewn with artificial sinew. Chunk of velcro on the chin strap.

DIY lifestyle, but with very basic sewing skills so it's rough.

40 minutes project time (minus materials)
2$ cost (plus a few cents of thread)

Critique or patterns welcome.

Enjoy,
Cameron

P.s. it's snowing here already so I won't be testing until further south this winter.

Nice.

Dunno about overkill with 72° water.....that's when I dawn my hooded vest + 3/2. Any colder, 5mm. lol

I suspect that may be a byproduct of residual cold build up when your accumulated bottom is measured in months instead of hours.

Or perhaps a latitude thing....

Either way, thanks for the comment!

I have been using a Scap brand neoprene cap and think they work pretty well.

Nice looking product! Guess I'll have to market mine is the industrial hand stitched premium version if I go into production since they have the well priced and properly stitched gig sown up already.

A feature I really like is that the part that rests against your forehead has tiny rubber bumps that help keep it from slipping.

Nice. I've been using a 2mm cap for a few years and once the mask strap is on top of it (at the back of your head), I find no slippage at all. It does however, annoyingly get water trapped in the back and tends to make my head look like a cone. I wonder if adding a small hole on the top/back will allow the trapped water to escape or if doing so will keep the water from warming up my head. Any thoughts?

I salute your attempt. I like the baseball style stitch work!

Looks cute. Love the ingenuity of it all.

I have a Scap too (the Hawaiian Print one), and LOVE it. I stay warmer and more comfortable with it on..... not to mention it makes me easy to see underwater.
