Well, I signed up today for my first class, which starts June 1. I had to either buy some books or some equipment today to hold my spot. I bought my snorkle and mask(already had some fins). I will be going to the pool tonight to practice some things that some of you have been so gracious as o encourage, including getting used to breathing with my mouth, leg work, and mask clearing.
I bet some of you experienced divers get a kick out of us newbies getting so excited about little things :)
Thanks again for all the tips. For everything I learn, which has mostly been on this board, I have 5 new questions popping up in my head.

Congratz! I'm still a "newbie' with only 21 dives thus far and I STILL get excited about different things.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being underwater!

Michael

it's not too late!!!!

Congrats!
I am BRAND new too.... Logged 6 dives so far and CANNOT get enough!
:jump013:

As for getting excited about the little things......let 'em giggle! :colgate:

I entertained my (MUCH more experienced) dive buddy (and sweetheart) a couple of weekends ago when we were diving in Lake Mead. We were slowly following the gradual slope down and hit a thermocline. I was so intrigued by it that I swam back up a couple of feet, then down a couple of feet, then up, then down....."Hey! a thermocline! check it out!! - - It's cold, it's warm, it's cold, it's warm, it's cold.....that is So COOL!" running through my head! ... My (Sweetheart) dive buddy figured out what I was doing, and Laughed bubbles at me! :rofl3:

Delight in the little things! Enjoy your class! Learn lots and be safe!

Welcome. That's great to hear that you are working on things by yourself. This way if any issues pop up, you will be able to work them out before class starts. This way you will not fall behind.

keep us posted on your progress, Spencermm... and welcome to the underworld. we all have to start somewhere, and it sounds like you are doing it the right way. good luck!

Join the Dork Diver community. We have a question and answer thread that was RUDELY transfered to the Humor section of scubaboard by some DIR mean spirited staff from the DARKSIDE.

Beware of the darkside - they will laugh at your snorkel, your split fin, your C card, your jacket BC, and everything else you deem so precious. They will even pretend to be your friend at the dive sites..... Then, the power of the dark side will draw you in the deep abyss of evil.

Save yourself - get a dork diver for a mentor - and you will be a happier man and a diver.

Welcome fellow newbie!!! Also practice completely removing your mask and putting it back on. That was the hardest part for me. Good luck and welcome to the board.

GOOD LUCK! Yes, diving is expensive...but once you get the type of gear you need for the type of diving you want to do, it's not too bad after that. When you are certified, it would be great to find an experienced diver to mentor with. Mine has taken my diving so much further.

:DFisherdvm is just jealous of the DARKSIDE LOL! He must not of gotten a cookie! (**smooches** Fisher!) Look into to DIR if you want to know what is meant by slipping into the dark!

Just find what works for you and where you want to dive! Research equipment and ask questions. Scubaboard is a great place to get info, but do your homework. You will be much happier if you do! It will save you alot of money in the long run too! HAPPY DIVING AND HAVE FUN! If you have any questions, PM me :)

Who knew compressed air could be so addictive?
