Signed on looking for info/opinions

Hi,

I just joined as I was perusing the internet trying to find some reviews on BC's as mine is ready to fall apart, and found this forum. I was certified in Calif. in 1973 but didn't log a lot of dives until recently (work & children have a way of taking priority), but recently (w/in the last 5-6 yrs.) my husband & I have been diving 4-5 times/year. I have some old equipment and some hand me downs from a friend with sinus problems, so gradually have been replacing my equipment. I just ordered a new Oceanic regulator and am in need of replacing my BC, so want to do some thorough research before slapping down $500+. My back starts hurting after the 2nd dive, so I'm willing to spend the bucks for one that would be comfortable and has integrated weights. So...that's why I'm here! I will do some digging on old threads to see if I can find some opionions of others on a BC that would fit my bill, but if anyone wants to add any recommendations, I'm all ears! I am woman who is 5'4", and weighs about 115 lbs.

You might want to consider a backplate and wings. While they also come in composite (plastic?), most are either aluminum or steel. Depending on how much weight you need (and how much rubber you are wearing), the steel one has enough weight that you might not need much on a belt at all (or you can get weight pockets for the belt of the harness) The aluminum is, of course, lighter. You might find it easier to maintain a good body position in the water, and without all of the jacket material they have less inherent boyancy. As needed you can buy different wings (depending on the type of diving you do) and still be able to use the same basic configuration on your harness. You won't see this suggested much to recreational divers, but it is worth considering. (And they do have pads for the shoulder straps if they bother you!)

when I say cant Teach i mean that to demo a skill you should have the gear the student has so if I have to remove and replace the unit and I want the student to loosen the shoulder straps it helps if I demo it that way.
