'Shrink wrap' hose protectors?

Buying a bunch of gear, I am finding some with what seems to be shrink used as hose protectors. Is this just regular shrink wrap used on them or is there a specific scuba shink wrap protector?

I don't know what it is but if it can't be slipped off the hose end fitting so it can be washed after the dive I would cut it off.

Exactly....the hose protector keeps salt water in contact with the fitting. So if you like (there are reasons not to) hose protectors make sure you can slip them back and away from the metal fitting during cleaning and storage.

As far as needing to move the hose protector to rinse the hoses, I am a lot more worried about the rubber hose cracking on the fitting than I am in properly rinsing the fitting itself.

Here is one place where corrosion rust whatever does not affect performance. I would rather corrode the fittings than have the rubber crack.

So no one knows where thicker heat shrink tubing could be found? I tried out a 3/4" heat shrink tubing, but it is not really thick enough. It loks like this might be made specifically for scuba hose protectors.

You need to be able to move the hose protectors to see if the hoses have cracks.

Bad idea all around.

Man, I just realized who asked the question.

I thought you were an instructor. God help us.

I have actually made my own hose protectors out of vinyl (clear) tubing fromthe hardware store. cut a piece, put it in a bowl of water, microwave until almost boiling, put a little liquid soap in it, use a rag to slip it onto the hose.

It allows inspection without removal. I've never had a corrosion problem. This protects a non-articulating metal to rubber hose connection, so I don't see how the connection would be that susceptible to corrosion. Plus I soak my regs after every trip.

Did I sleep with your girlfriend, or boyfriend, or sheep, or what?

I've never had a corrosion problem with hoses, period. I have had hoses crack from working at that crimp on point.

I'd be more than happy to not be able to visually inspect the hose, ever, if I knew it would not fail due to the crimp eating into the rubber, ever. It seems like any hose protector that can be moved, ends up moving and no longer protecting the hose.
