Ok so ive been searching for a while trying to find a good light to take on my most recent dive trip down to Ginnie Springs and Troy Springs. I have done a lot of reading on the Dorcy 220, and it sounded pretty good and thanks to some of you i was convinced to go with it. I bought it from piranha dive and as usual the service was great and i received my light. At first i was skeptical it didnt seem all that much brighter than my 60 lumen UK Q40 eled's but the beam was much more focused. After doing a side by side comparison i decided that the Dorcy was indeed brighter and was feeling better abt the purchase, although $50 isnt very much in dive light terms. I also ordered a Oxycheq Light sock and was very pleased with how the light fit it.

So fast forward a week and were at troy gearing up for the first dive. Im with a group of AOW students who are all armed with princeton tec impact led's, the dive leader is using a DR led lux. We begin our descent and the vis is pretty good, and as we get to abt the 50' mark i turn on my light and BAMM!!! it was like a light saber erupted from the bezel made of white light. I was like YES this light rocks!!!! dont get me wrong i am a very new diver and have never even seen a can light used underwater but for the level of diving that im at this is the perfect substitution. I mean really i was quite impressed with the performance....of course now im curious to see the beam from a 21 watt HID i can only imagine.....After the dive at least 5 people came up to me and asked what sort of light i was using, and where they could get one....including the guy with the LUX.

So moral of the story for any novice diver's out there who want that can light effect but can fork out $500 the Dorcy is a great choice for clear night dives and caverns.
and just to be thorough the light worked great throughout the weekend at Ginnie and drifting down the santa fe river.

It's a great light. I had the same experience on a LOB last May. 3-4 people asked me about it during the week - afaik two bought one. It blew away my SL4 eLED - I did a side by side comparison u/w one night. My buddy has a C4 eLED - he'd light something up then I'd come over and really light it up!! so he could film it at night. IMO the Dorcy was brighter.

You've gotta love new technology...

I also used the same set of batteries on 5 night dives with no perceived loss of output.

Home Depot sells a small plated link that just fits through the hole in the dorcy - I use one to attach it to the lanyard.

I've got a couple too and like them, however I also have the SL4 with an R5 drop in rated at 320 lumins that is brighter with a nicer beam.

Well, my wife and I just received our new Dorcys, which we plan to use for the first time in a few weeks on a trip to Bonaire. These are the first lights we've owned, having been renting dive lights for our previous night dives. Unpacking the Dorcys from the box, what struck me was how compact they are. We had been considering buying traditional pistol-grip lights from UK or Princeton Tec, but we were swayed by the rave reviews here on SB suggesting that the Dorcy works fine as a primary light for the kind of diving we do. It's hard to believe that these little lights can be as effective as some of the bulkier lights, but we will soon see for ourselves.

Good to hear... u will be more impressed in the water !!!

I've got the Dorcy 180 lumen light (first generation). But I'm planning on buying a Dorcy 220 before next dive season.

I use mine on about every dive. It's great for looking in cracks under stuff, even on day dives. Works a lot better than the Princeton Tec pistol grips do for that and lots smaller and better for clipping off. (doesn't have that pesky pistol grip handle knocking you when clipped off).

The Princeton Tec does have a "better flood pattern" though. But I've had about 5 Princeton Tec lights break though... and after having "better lights", I most likely won't buy many more of them. (Princeton Tec does have a great warranty though and have fixed every one of them under warranty, FYI).

My DORCY 180 gets used about 2-3 nights a week also by my wife to go out and try to find the cats to get them in. The DORCY light beam reaches much farther than our other lights and can light up the cats eyes at 50-100 yards out. Batteries also last a very long time with usage every week also. They are rarely changed.

overall, this is a great light.

BTW to everyone, if you go to DORCY DIRECT's website and buy it, I think that the discount code of SCUBA will get you 20% off and free shipping. I haven't checked it in a while to see, but it used to.
