Absolutely!
Someone asked about renting a car even though they were not planning to drive around to look for yellow rocks to go shore diving. I still think that a vehicle is an essential part of the Bonaire experience and touring the island can be one of best parts of your vacation. At least rent a car for a day or two to take a look around.
Bonaire has an unusual and interesting culture and environment. Where else can you see salt flats, salt hills/pier, a jungle park, turquoise seas, and windmill farms all on the same small island? Not to mention cactus, desert, mangroves, donkeys and wild flamingoes.
You will be surprised to find the pink sand beaches and I guarantee that the slave huts will be a real eye-opener. Even if you are not a windsurfer, it is fun to visit that side of the island and have lunch and watch the windsurfers.
I remember driving all the way out to Lac Cai to see the mounds of conch shells and to watch the fisherman and pelicans, and frigate birds. Rincon up in the hills offers a completely different side of Bonaire.
The diving is great but don't just go to Bonaire to dive - take the time to enjoy this lovely and unusual spot on the planet.
