Hi,
I'm doing my open water course this week, and I was wondering if i should start wearing a wetsuit inside the pool to get used to it or just wait until I go out in the open water?

I wore mine right away. there is a ton of difference with & without..Might as well start getting used to it

Okay that's good.
Need to get a wet suit first haha...the one I ordered didn't fit =[! I "think" it was too tight

This depends to a degree upon the temperature of the pool and the thickness of the suit.

Our pool is used solely for diving, and it is kept at a cozy temperature to allow for long exposures in relative comfort. When we do OW dives locally, it is in relatively cold water using 7mm suits. If our divers used 7mm suits in our pool, they would be uncomfortably warm.

My OW would be in a normal swimming pool, and when i'm outdoors would be in the north sea....I think either Farne Islands or somewhere else.

Depends on what thickness wetsuit you're talking about. If the pool is heated and you're wearing a 7mm suit you're gonna get pretty hot.

On the other hand, even if the pool is heated, you'll probably start to get cold after an hour or so in the pool.

Our shop has thin "pool" wetsuits for use in the pool.

PS - I would certainly wear hood and gloves at some point in the pool to get used to doing skills in them if you're going to be wearing them for your check-out dives.

why is it that diving places tell you that you only need fins, masks and snorkels...when you clearly need a lot more?

a hood and gloves? are hoods really needed...?

Depends on the temperatures you'll be diving in. In colder waters, definitely, yes. If it is warmer waters then it's a judgment call on how easily you get cold. The big thing is, you want to be comfortable on your dive. Might not be a bad idea to go ahead & wear a thin "beanie" instead of a full hood, if the waters are warm. Remember most of the body's heat is lost through the head. But then you're looking at someone who dives a drysuit year round & a wetsuit in an indoor pool.
