You can do it yourself, they will do it better and since they have the suit you shouldn’t incur any additional costs.Dont know if I want to spend $150 for DUI to glue on a pocket to a 3mm 50/50 drysuit. Would doing it myself be almost as good or is it something you defiantly want a Professional to do?
thanks
This. I have nickel rocketed this in the past and it was hard to get the pocket straight. I held it in place while a buddy traced around it with lipstick (don't ask..). I have done it on 2-3 suits and every time it just comes out "ok". If AquaSeal residue doesn't bother you and you aren't anal about rule 6 I say go for it. On all my suits the corners of the pockets eventually started peeling up so you get into a routine of slopping more AquaSeal under the corners, weighting it down, rinse and repeat every few months. The best pockets are the sewn and glued ones or whatever the manufacturers do these days. I have had the same pockets on my DUI for like 18 years and they show no signs of coming off. I also have a Deep6 wetsuit that those guys put the pockets on and they also did a way better job than I ever could have. You can do it yourself, they will do it better and since they have the suit you shouldn’t incur any additional costs.
No need to sew it on. Sewing is the fastest way to attach a pocket. The stitching should not totally penetrate the neoprene suit. They should use a 'fur machine' (IMHO).
Tape? Why penetrate the neoprene suit?
OK. Lots of ways to attach a simple pocket. I have no problem with that other than I don't want any more suit penetrations than it came with...
Pros usually run a bead of neoprene cement around the perimeter of both suit and pocket, dry the cement, position and sew. Works just fine. If you want to do it yourself, follow the directions given to me (above). Your call...
