Hi!

I have been reading all of the previous messages about solutions to keep long hair under control whilst diving. I have short hair with shortish layers and a fringe at the front. I tend to get my fringe and layers caught up in my mask and as it's not all one length I can't pull it back into a pony tail. Can anyone suggest where I could get a waterproof stretch hairband from? I am based in the uk and I have tried normal hairbands from places like Claires Accessories but as soon as they get wet they stretch and stop pulling the layers back away from my face!!

Can anyone suggest anything??

Have you thought about getting a beenie? Its not as thick as a hood and doesn't covedr your next. It just goes over your head and fastens under the chin.

My wife just tucks hers under her hood. But if that is not an option then could try using a strip of rudder cut from an inner tube. It won't exactly be high fashion but it does sort of accessorize with the rest of the rubber articles you are wearing and it is water proof.

I also have short layered hair. I tend to just get in the water, dunk my head at the surface to get all the hair away from my face and then get my mask in the right place. Once it's set....the layers can fall on top of the top of my mask, (my hair's not long enough for the layers to get in my eyes) and it doesn't bother me ....for me, it's just getting the mask on without hair getting in the way.

I've tried multiple things on my head cloth, lycra, neoprene....they all work fine...the reality for me is that unless I need thermal protection....I just don't want to wear a cap/beanie.

Good luck.

Peace,
Cathie

I'm with you, Cathie. I just wet mine and push it off my face so that I can get the mask on without anything catching underneath. I only wear something when i'm in cold water for thermal protection

I too don't bother with my hair unless I need to wear a bit of exposure protection like a dive beanie or a full-fledged hood.

Otherwise, I just let it be.

Consolation: our hair is always dry BEFORE the long-hairs have even finished combing theirs out. :out:

A Dee-Rag would help. Worn correctly it stays on undrwater very well. It easily keeps all lengths of hair contained.

Like CuriousMe and brizzolatti, I also have short hair and do the same thing. If you'll wet your hair and get it off your face before putting your mask on, you shouldn't have any problems.

But I'd be glad to sell you a Dee-Rag anyway! ;)

If you're really wanting something to keep your hair back and away from your face.....you might try one of those plastic hairbands with the little teeth on the inside so that it stays (you know, the ones that look like upside down U's....they usually have them in a tortise shell like plastic?)....That might do the trick.

Peace,
Cathie
