I was planning on doing a few dives thru my cruise ship but i canceled my reservation since I didnt get a good vibe from who I was talking with at the dive shop. I was going to do some shore dives around the island instead of a boat dive. how do shore dives compare to boat dives?

sorry, Grand Cayman

There is good shore diving on GC - easy access to sites out West and North. IIRC from your other post, you're coming in to Georgetown for the day, right? So you'll want to stay on the West End and/or up North. One of my favorite easy access shore dives there is Robert's /Turtle Farm Reef up north at the Cracked Conch (Sundivers). Nice mini wall from 20-60' with a deep wall just a few hundred yards offshore. We do this dive every time we're there. There's also nice shore diving up at Cobalt Coast and Lighthouse Point (LHP is on the way to the Turtle Farm -I haven't done LHP myself yet) CC is further up. Back down towards G-Town there's Cemetary, Cheeseburger, Devil's Grotto, Eden Rock, Sunset, and Smith's Cove just to name a few. GC has plenty of nice shore sites - most with dive ops on site to rent tanks from.

As to how they compare to boat dives, well - they're (for the most part) probably not quite as lush as some of the GC (especially East End) boat sites, but are better than many boat sites in other locales.

I second the recommendation for the Turtle reef run by www.Sundivers.ky as well as the LightHouse Point dives run by www.divetech.com.

We have done Turtle Ref several times and LHP once. Sometimes the conditions at that end of the island will preclude diving, but when it is possible it is nice.

An advantage of teh Turtle reef site is the presence of the Macabuca bar. (You'll walk through it to enter the dive!) The Mrs and I did a first dive, took a surface interval coomplete with soft drinks, did second dives, rinsed our stuff and then had lunch right there. The price is right, too. The four dives (2 each) came to $60.00 including the nitrox fills we dive. Some times you can get a coupon for dives and meals at www.caymanactivityguide.com.

If you want to try a boat dive, I've had great diving experiences with Casey, the resident dive goddess, at Neptunes Divers Neptune's Divers, Cayman's Original 8 Divers Max. Tell her DiveSergeant says "hi"

Enjoy,
DS

The funny thing is I told my girlfriend to choose between 2 tank with neptune and 1 shore dive at turtle farm or 3 shore dives at diffrent places on the island.

So, what'd she pick? Looking at the options, either of them would make me happy but I'd probably lean toward the 2 w/ Neptune's and 1 at the Turtle Farm!

Cool! Tell Casey hello from Divesergeant

Speaking of Casey, here's a shot of her taking a shot of some of us from the Cayman Activity Guide...
