My wife and 12 year old son and I are traveling to Queensland from The States next September 2008. (Have to attend a wedding for a cousin down at Surfers Paradise).
Both my wife and son get a touch of seasickness so we have always tried to shore dive and snorkle whenever possible.

Looking for a place to stay (resort etc etc) on the GBR that would be nice to shore dive from. Green Island? Magnetic?

We don't get down under very much so I wouldn't mind if we have to spend a little more to get something really nice.

Any help with the planning would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Shore diving is somewhat limited in Queensland.

Green and Magnetic Island while you can shore dive off them don't exactly offer much as they aren't on the actual Great Barrier Reef. They are coastal islands and susceptible to bad vis depending on rainfall etc.

An island like Lady Elliot, which is on the south GBR will give a much better experience.

Not sure if all the sites are accessible from the shore, but the boat ride would be short.

Good Luck

THANK YOU very much for the info. I was starting to lose hope for any responses. I will look into the website you provided. Thanks again!

What about using seasickness patches? The great barrier reef is around 70 minutes offshore by fast boat, but it's great to get to...

What about Lizard Island, have you checked into going there? Excellent diving and snorkeling, even better off the dive boats!
