Am tentatively planning a trip to Aruba in the next couple of months and have a deal on lodging at the Wyndham Aruba Beach Resort Hotel on Palm Beach. Is this a good place for shore diving?

First, I don't think it's the Wyndham anymore. I think it was bought out or converted to a Westin. It's still a nice hotel. (their bar sucked though).

Beautiful beach and great water off the beach. Crystal clear.

However, for shore diving from the hotel, all you'd see is sand. lots and lots of sand. I snorkeled all around it and never saw anything but sand and maybe an item lost by a a swimmer.

There really isn't any shore diving along Palm Beach. just sand.

Goto ShoreDiving.com - Your Shore Diving and Snorkeling Web Community! and you'll find that there are some shore diving spots at Arashi Beach and Baby beach, but you'll want a car or taxi to get to these.

There are several dive operators that operate out of the piers near the hotel, but none onsite. Though the hotel can book you through the other operators.

There is no shore diving in that area (only boat diving). But the island is small, so there is no need to stay close to a particular dive site.

The shore dives are listed on ShoreDiving.com - Your Shore Diving and Snorkeling Web Community!. Here's the link:
Scuba Shore Diving Site Listing for: Aruba, ABC Islands

Of the dive sites on shorediving.com, dive sites nr. 5 to 14 are suitable for scuba (10 to 14 are only for advanced shore divers). Sites nr. 1 to 4 are snorkel sites.

Puerto Chikito, Mangel Halto Reef and Baby Beach Reef are popular shore dives. Of these 3 sites Puerto Chikito is the easiest shore dive. Mangel Halto Reef is conncected to Puerto Chikito; the swim out is longer and a little harder at Mangel Halto Reef, but the coral is nicer. Baby Beach Reef is a very exciting shore dive; definitely a must dive.

Mike_s is right. The Wyndham is now a Westin.

Thanks for the very helpful shore diving tips :)
