Will dual ys-01's work for wide angle? I will be using 8mm fisheye (Oly epl-5). Or do I have to upgrade to ys-d1?

Kind of depends how close you'll be and what you're shooting. full-on reefscapes, large animals - yes to the YS-D1.

Smaller-framed close focus/wide angle, maybe a fan or something that you can close to then the 2x YS-01 should work out.

Thanks Jack, Overall would I see more benefit upgrading? even for Macro or TTL?

The YS-D1 and YS-01 have the same DS-TTL compatibility option using the fibre optic cable.
For macro you won't see any difference whatsoever as the YS-01 power is plenty

Where you will see a difference is wide angle with strobe full extended at small apertures as the YS-D1 is more powerful. Even for close focus wide angle there won't be much of a difference until you step down to f/8 and smaller

Was able to score some ys-d1's for $550 so after reselling my ys-01s it was only a $350-400 upgrade.

TTL will work fine and you'll have plenty of power for macro. If you didn't already have the strobes, it would be a consideration, especially for wide angle. As you grow your system, and take on more challenges, you will probably want to upgrade, but shoot what you have for now and consider better lenses and ports first.
