Can anyone help me identify this reg?

I'm trying to open it up, and it looks like I should just be able to unscrew the plastic halves, but it's really throwing me for a loop. Unfortunately, it's hard to Google something you don't know the name of.

It's just a standard Sherwood 2nd stage from the mid 80's.....as simple as they get.
The purge cover will unscrew.....it might need a little encouragement, it's been on there for a long time.
If you get to removing the poppet housing use two spanners as there might be locktight and the plastic housings are easily cracked.

That looks like a 3200 second stage. It's got the release button on the cover that keeps it from unscrewing (about 5 or 5:30 on the reg in the picture you posted).

Pick up the SRB3200 manual here

If you look on the back side of the cover plate, you will see a a small metal tab about 3/4 inch long that is between the metal ring and one of the lobes on the plastic body. remove this and that should allow the cover to unscrew. The part pictured at 5:00 is the purge button retainer. Regards Scott

Doh! Thanks for the correction. It's been a long time since I took one of these apart. dsenloe is correct about the button on the cover being a purge button retainer. The secret is, as he describes, on the back of the reg.

Most regs look they will unscrew but have some type of pin that prevents removal. You can easily crack the cover if you do not remove it first.

So it didn't have the retainer clip, but I didn't realize *cough* that the metal surround was a retainer on the whole shebang. I totally thought it was just for impact protection. Pried it loose with a screwdriver and the face came off... well, not easily, I had to use vise grips, but it came. Cleaned the orifice, replaced the seat and set it to crack at 1.5". 2nd stage #3 of 4 good to go!
