I'm a Fish!
So as a kid I use to love shark week even though I knew most of it was well overplayed and “fake” and I haven’t watched it in a few years. I tuned in tonight and watched the last 15 minutes of the Shaq episode and it will be the last time I tune into anything shark week related again.

How do others feel about shark week?

I don’t watch it as it feels like silly sensationalism and seems to paint sharks in a bad light. I’d rather see the real deal myself, like these from a Grand Cayman East End dive this past Thursday:

Can’t get them to play but yeah I’m in the same boat TBH. I rather go swim with them personally if/when possible. Hopefully during mini season I’ll come across one or two lol

I stopped watching when they started with the fake documentaries.

Tonight they encountered a crocodile off of Cuba. Don't know if that's real, but I'd completely freak out.

Totally sensationalized...but I love it!
Shark Week for me is a sweet respite at the end of the day during a long hot summer, of long workdays and little sleep. It lifts my spirits to see spectacular footage of spectacular animals. I don't care if it's sensationalized. Ain't no way I can get away to go diving at this time of year so it holds me over till I can.
This year I'm going completly sharky on my dive trips. First up GWS at Guadeloupe, then to top it off Tigers and Great Hammerheads in Bimini.
Should be EPIC!

Shark Week on Discovery Channel is s bad as most reality tv.
Sharkfest on Nat Geo is actually pretty good. The show where a crew filmed 700 sharks coming for 17,000 grouper was interesting.

I've been watching the last two nights out of a mix of professional curiosity, schadenfreude, masochism, and gin. Among other things the padding, recaps, and commercial breaks inflate what should be 20-30 minutes of TV into an hour, which adds to the torture factor.

Much of what I've seen definitely reeks of being scripted and edited to play up the drama. It's a far cry from what it was 30 years ago when I started watching.

I've mostly avoided it over the years as I much prefer actually diving with sharks than watching their nonsense. I did tune in the other night and watched part of the Shaq episode. Probably won't tune in again for the rest of my life.
