my freinds use them for spearing and are convinced they make a big difference in keeping sharks away.
 
I have heard ... and remember now that this is just hearsay ... that the Shark Shield draws sharks in towards you but then stops them at a few metres away from you.

Sort of like luring them in and repelling them and at a certain distance (a few metres away) the repelling action and the luring action are in balance. So you'll still have sharks in the general area, just not near you.

Again, this is what I have heard. I have never used one nor seen one in action.
 
Unless you're out killing things, you'd be better off getting a bowling ball shield. They're far more dangerous than the sharks. Even your dive buddy is a more likely a safety hazard.
 
I've heard they work well when spearing. I've also heard it is best to turn them off before grabbing an aluminum ladders as they result could be shocking.
