Just to set the record straight, the shark fishing does not occur in the Cozumel Marine Park, but on the mainland. IT is entirely legal for local fishermen to use a rod and reel to catch a shark--but not to use "long lines" with multiple hooks. That is grossly illegal, even in Mexico, but seldom enforced by the local fish and game authorities.

That is what President Calderon wants to stop, and to be enforced now and in the future. Those are the people he cell phoned to last week from our boat.

I am pretty sure that the local authorities have listened to him, but if we sense that it goes on, we know who to talk to.
