Hey guys, somebody linked me to the website of this documentary. Apparantly this guy started out with the intent on making an underwater documentary on sharks, but ended up on a quest to expose the shark finning industry, including it's mafia connections. Check out the preview on the page, it looks awesome. http://www.sharkwater.com/

Would love to get a copy of that documentary to show out here in Hong Kong. We are nearing the big Chinese New Year holiday and shark's fin soup is usually on the menu... We had our annual office dinner last Friday and I refused to attend because it was on the menu. :no And I work for an American company, mind you!:shakehead

I should also mention I am traveling half way around the globe this summer to dive in Cocos, largely due to the fact that sharks have been pretty much fished out of Asia!

Thanks I heard about this documentary can't wait to see it. I hope it gets a good distribution worldwide people in Asia need to watch this.

I'm being told that a possible release date is March 23rd. I definetly wanna get the word out on this one.

The Canadian release is March 23. The anticipated US release is currently September '07. And it has been making the film festival circuit. If you live near DC, it's showing March 19, 7pm at the AFI Theater in Silver Spring as part of the DC Environmental Film Festival.

I don't know whether there will be releases in other regions, although I don't think Europe would be too big a stretch.

I saw Shark water at Ft Lauderdale where it won a couple awards and has one an award in Toronto. The filmmaker tells a good personal tale with some good footage on finning in Costa Rica and action with Sea Sheperd. Its definitely good drama and has a serious message about shark finning.

Take action for sharks

Hello shark lovers.

Like diving with sharks? Over several years I have been diving and filming sharks in the Tuamotus, Hawaii, the NWHI and from CA to New Zealand by sail .

I am an independent filmmaker and have just completed a 27 minute documentary on sharks and their importance to reef and ocean ecology.
Sharks: Stewards of the Reef tackles the threats facing sharks including bycatch, overfishing and shark finning.

Make a difference, watch the trailer, read more and sign the petition to alibaba.com the largest purveyor of online shark fins.
25% of DVD sales goes to shark conservation.

There are also some nice diving shots!

If you're going to Beneath the Sea this weekend, we'll be showing a trailer for Sharkwater at our booth (Oceana, 318).

And yes, September is a long time to wait, unless you cross over to Canada, where they're premiering in theaters tonight.
