I just watched Sharkwater again last night, it's on DVD now. Sharkwater does an excellent job of chronicling the current situation regarding Chinese cultures feverish pursuit of shark fins and the illegal fishing methods they are employing to do so. It also shows you how money is influencing the governments in small nations like Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands.

Another thing Sharkwater touches on are some of Sea Shepherd's methods methods of stopping shark finning. I felt the movie did a great job of introducing people to Captain Paul Watson and giving us a peak into his belief and methods.

As anyone may have guessed I am totally against shark finning, long line fishing and the unsustainable practices used by many domestic and international fishing fleets. I wanted to get some other divers opinions on the matter.

sharkfinning is much like black bear gal bladder poaching here, it's a shame since only small parts of the animals are kept and the rest is wasted. I am totally against this activity.
