Hello all,

I have been strongly thinking about doing commercial diving in the past few months after my recent seperation from the Marine Corps in September. I have always loved diving and have even become certified through padi as a divemaster. I have some concerns on the decision though because after research I've done it seems like it's difficult to find work doing plus all the choices of schools and not knowing which is best or even where to start after I completed the training of I decided to do it. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Until Russia starts bombing Turkey, the industry has been destroyed by the low oil price. Thousands (literally) of very experienced divers are on the scrap heap. If you want to become a commercial diver just now, expect either no work, or poorly paid work for years to come. Get a job in an industry with more stability, and spend your vacations diving in the Bahamas if you enjoy diving.

If you are really set on being a commercial diver, go to Young''s Memorial College in Louisiana. It is the cheapest program in the U.S. If you have the funds and the time stay and get an Associate Degree. Otherwise it is the fastest way into the industry with little outlay.

Usually I recommend Santa Barbara City College because they have a much more superior program and a highly respected AS degree program. Most graduates move into the Life Support Technician field where the working conditions are better than that of your average commercial diver.

muddiver hit it right . if you are a good diver you can always find work. it may not pay much all the time but it's work .
