Is there a good dive magazine for the, shall we say, "financially challenged?" I'm not interested in the latest equipment or the best exotic dive locations. I would like to read about swimming techniques, dive stories and maybe even some ideas for building equipment from scratch. Is there such a publication available for subscription?

Yes there is, how about FREE!! Go to your local dive shop and they will usually have issues of Dive Training sitting out, Some dive shops sell them some give them away..
If you were certified go to that shop and ask them for a copy, and any back copies if they have them...

There is a very good dive magazine from England but I cannot think of the name....very information packed and not a lot of advertisements. You can read it for a week....

I second that recommendation... Dive Traing is about the only all around dive magazine I read cover to cover... it's excellent... only other two I mention are niche mags, but awesome... Shark Diver, and Wreck Diving...

yeah, Dive Training be nice

i like to read Diver Magazine on line (it's a UK mag, very nice):

Kidsopt nailed it. ScubaBoard even convers your DIY interests.

Dive Training will give you good dose of coaching every month and a smattering of the gear, destination and envionmental topics. Best of all it's free at almost any dive shop you wander into!

While I read Dive Training, my favorite is definitely Scubaboard! :D More info than any magazine and always entertaining :D

Can't agree more. I am getting more out of this board than the magazines. Thanks to all the members, you guys are making this board better and better. :10:

It is too bad, they couldn't publish SB in a form I could take to the loo. Honestly, I find myself in situations, locations, where I am not able to kill some time by reading SB on my laptop. So I am always in search of new and interesting magazines.

I think that V. G. McGillicuddy has brought up a point I have often noticed. As a diver in the NE, there is very little diving information in magazines that relate to me. Sure, if I had plenty of money, and the time to spend it, I could go diving all over the world, like the majority of magazines would have you believe everyone is doing.

But, the majority of dives, by people who dive more than once or twice a year (or live somewhere tropical) look nothing like the ones that fill the pages of the available periodicals.
