What is considered the proper way to secure a video housing according to the DIR system? I am using a Gates PD-170 housing. With lights/arms, extra boyancy, monitor, the equipment has some size to it.

If I use a wrist mounted lanyard on my right hand, would it be considered as an unacceptable interference/risk in a possible OOA situation? If on the left hand it would interfere with SMPG reading and boyancy control...

Those of you that fully use the DIR system and use a videocamera when diving, what is considered the "best" way to secure the housing (if at all).

And by the way, I do not have a scooter...

I clip mine to the scooter D-ring. It's out of the way if I need my hands.
when in use, I hold it in my right(non light) hand. When done, I clip it off to my right chest D ring.

The housings we have are big enough that you need two hands to use them. I clip off the light when I'm using the video. I don't often clip off the video housing, but when I do I also use my right chest D ring.

I clip it off my right chest D-ring and use one of those elastic lanyards (coiled like telephone cable) with a quick release snap to shorten it.

I would check with Brando, BCS on this board for the DIR answer. When I use a video housing, normally I hold it in two hands, but it can be held with one hand. When I need both hands, I clip it off. Retractors, wrist lanyards, etc. are not DIR.

JJsteffen is right on the mark here. A bolt snap is the best way. Best, bob
