Looking to book a honeymoon trip the first week of November to Secrets Maroma Beach. The resort says that diving is on site but I can't find any further details - boat dives vs shore dives (and where does the boat leave from), equipment rental for my fiance, price, etc. I am a certified but novice diver (dove Riviera Maya out of downtown Playa del Carmen with Fantasea Dive in May 2008 and loved it) and my fiance is getting certified this summer. So we're not looking for a dive vacation, but rather a nice relaxing honeymoon where we can get a couple of dives of diving in.

Anyone have any experience diving from this resort? I'm hoping the dives leave from their beach, I'd rather not lug all my dive equipment into a taxi to get to downtown PDC...

We stayed there when it first opened.. they used Aqua World and I think you have to go to Playa to catch the boat as there is no pier at the Secrets complex ( I dont remember seeing any boats pull up to load in front of Secrets) I booked an external dive shop "Manta Divers" and enjoyed them.. I have dove with Aqua World before and was not impressed with the reefs we visited, but they did a good job in the Cenotes

There is no shore dives that I am aware of ... Another option is to head over one day to Coz for superior diving compared to the mainland - its worth the trip

The Maroma is a excellent choice and perhaps the best beach in Mexico IMO

Time to update this thread. We're looking at spending Christmas at Secrets Maroma Beach. Current advice on local dive shops and sites would be appreciated. No cenotes for me though thanks. For Coz, do you take the ferry from Playa del Carmen or would the dive boat cross?

Thanks

I would take the ferry over and dive with Aldora, but that's just me. If you catch the first morning ferry, you'll get there in plenty of time and their shop where you'll need to go to do paperwork, etc. is a quick walk from the ferry.

I know boats go from Coz to Playa for shark dives (didn't one sink a year ago?), but I think the Playa dive shops take the ferry over and get a boat there. I don't remember seeing any dive boats in Playa big enough to cross the strait, but I've always dove with Jason at Fantasea and don't have a diversity of experience.

If you go with Tank-Ha in Playa, you can go over on their boat and avoid the ferry.
