I've been certified for a year in Seattle, but have dove on Maui and Kauai since then, along with Hood Canal and a few other spots in the Puget Sound. I just bought my own regulator, which is what brought me across the boards, to research. I'm interested in learning skills for my advanced open water, and to see more wolf eels, sea lions, and maybe catch a dungeness or two.

See you in the water!

Welcome to SCUBAboard!

Good Luck & Good Diving.

There are many very good instructors who would be capable of helping you get to the "next level" of diving. Shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to name names. Also, tell me where you live and what it is you want to do.

Brownc9 you will see more wolf eels as with the dungies and octo's because there are so many dungies in the sound for them to eat, thats what I presume cause they are seen in many places where they were many years ago and now there back and the octo's also.

Diving with sealions is a little more rare here but I have dove with but not lately, diving around a sealion colony is best place to see them. I have tried lots of times with the sealions in front of my house and they come close but do not hang long at all so, wish you better luck on those dives.

Welcome to ScubaBoard. If you're planning to dive locally, you have a great many resources available ... including a welcoming community of very active local divers. I suggest that in addition to ScubaBoard, you join our local forum ... northwestdiveclub.com ... SB is a great place to talk about diving and get more in-depth information about diving, but the local board is the place to find local diving activities.

Also, if you click on the link in the last line of my sig line, and select the Articles tab, you'll find a series of articles I've written specifically for folks like you ... relatively inexperienced divers who are looking to learn. Many of those articles are experience-based, and things you're not likely to hear in a classroom.

Take Peter up on his offer ... he and his wife are some great local resources, and are very happy to share their knowledge with people seeking to learn.

Here's a video of me and some friends from about four years ago ... something for you to look forward to ...

Welcome to :sblogo: and to Pacific Northwest Diving!

There are all kinds of diving opportunities around here. Check out the "Weekly Dives" thread on the nwdiveclub.com site -- these are standing dives that welcome new divers, and occur at a variety of places.

Bob's articles are fantastic (as is Bob) and we are lucky to have quite a few good instructors around, if you want any official help in polishing skills or acquiring new ones. The standing dives also have people who are willing to do some mentoring, as an unofficial way to improve. And, of course, see a lot of critters while you're at it!

Thanks guys, I learned my open water from Dom October of 2010. At sund rock we had a close encounter with a harbor seal but he took off to swim with another group of divers. Lots of wolf eels there. I'm hoping I get my gear setup this week to dive this weekend, probably cove 1 at w. Seattle.

It seems like the used market is pretty rich with people upgrading constantly, so I'll need to keep my were peeled to some good deals. (octo, gauges/computer) currently I'm diving on my buddy's gear, replacing as I go.

Another really good thread is the Craiglist deals thread on the Nwdiveclub. Lots of eagle-eyed folks keeping an eye out for good deals on gear.

Welcome to Scubaboard…look around for there is something for everyone.
