Seattle, 1962: Amas join an all-women's diving contest.

Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.. Sometime in the Summer of 1962. Probably the first all-women diving contest in that area. It was called the Mermaid Dive. Women divers from as far as British Columbia, California, and even some Ama Divers (Pearl Divers) from Japan made an appearance. The Amas were also a part of the Seattle World's Fair that year. I also added an article from the March 1963 issue of Skin Diver Magazine.

This may sound strange but I remember that article. That was the year I got certified at 11YO. I had never heard of Ama divers and couldn't find an entry in the new encyclopedia my parents just purchased.
