Since doing my OW qualifying dives, I've had a slightly strange sensation in one ear. I've seen my doctor about it, and been taking some drops- she thinks the problem is just wax.

However, I've read that some motion sickness remedies thicken the inner ear fluid. I took a Sturgeron pill each day I dived as I was told they were the least likely to make me drowsy. Could this have something to do with the problem? Does thickening the ear fluid have any adverse effects?

Also, is there any brand of seasickness pills (available in the UK) that anyone would recommend as the most suitable for use when diving?

Thanks for your help!

I cannot immagine that the viscosity of the inner ear fluid (perilymph) influences the ability to clear your ears.

Clearing ears means equalising the air pressure in the MIDDLE ear by opening the eustachian tube for a while. I cannot immagine that thicker inner ear fluid obstructs the eustachian tube somehow.

Maybe it has positive effect on 'round window rupture' that may occur when you pinch your nose and try to blow of your ass.

I would be amazed  if your inner ear fluid thickens by seasickness pills. I think it is the same fluid as in your brain and nervous system. I wonder what the effect of this is on your brain....

BTW I am not a doctor. I am just thinking aloud right now....
