Sorry if these items have been addressed before. I tried to search, but one of my questions is about searching.
  1. If it is possible, how do I search a specific forum? e.g. I wanted to search this very forum about my questions but the search went across all forums.

  2. How does the "edit" link in posts work? It is there at times and not at others. Does it disappear after a certain amount of time? If this is a vBulletin setting is it possible to either extend the time or remove the time limit?

  3. For prefixes, I was able to add a "Question" prefix to this specific post but don't see how I can add one to an existing post. Two examples: a) I posted a question/request for a Shearwater database file which was provided. I now want to add a prefix "Solved" or "Answered" but I can't find a way to do that b) If I post something to the Classified section and the item sells, how do I post a "Sold" prefix"?

  4. I see there are many threads about not being able to post to the Classifieds section but I am confused about it. I found a "Rules" post from 2019 which is informative but is it up to date, can the complete list of requirements be listed there? What are the requirements for posting in the Classifieds section? How many posts are required.. 10 posts, 25 posts, I've seen both? Does the banner saying "You have insufficient privileges to post threads here" go away when the requirements are met or do we need to do something specific to make that happen?

Thanks for any help with these questions.

Yes, when you click Search you get a screen that says "Everywhere" in the top right. Click that Everywhere and you get a drop-down that let's you choose a more targeted search.

I think it is set for about one day, and it is fixed.

You need ten posts and approval by a mod, which takea bout a day. You also need to set your profile to Opt-In for Classified.

Thanks for the answers.

Any info on the prefixes?

On Classifieds: I have >10 posts and have opted into Market Place. How do I get approval from a moderator?

I believe it was increased from 10 to further deter spammers/scammers.

The point of requiring some minimum number of posts before gaining privileges to post in Classifieds is simply to show that the member is actually a participant here and not just someone who flew in to post an ad and leave. Classifieds is just an added bonus for genuine SB members, because now and then we all have stuff we want to get rid of or buy, and it may provide some reassurance to be able to deal with people you feel you have gotten to "know" from their posts in the discussion threads.

When a member has participated enough in the discussion threads, then when they go the Classifieds forum they will see the button for posting a new thread. New threads then go to an approval queue, which moderators may review from time to time throughout the day. If a new Classified ad sits in the queue for a day, please be patient--the moderators are volunteers here.

I totally get the need for a minimum number of posts. What I am asking is how many and where is this documented?

I'm afraid I do not know if and where it is documented. There are some Special Rules posted in the Classifieds forum, but the threshold number of posts does not appear to be mentioned. Although the threshold isn't exactly secret information, perhaps it keeps potential scammers/spammers on their toes. The threshold could be changed, as it was a few months ago.

I think the bottom line is that if you want to take advantage of the Classifieds feature, you're encouraged to join in on the fun stuff first.
